Because of unusual planning restrictions on the building, the main contractor had to create a 2-story high extra extension to the roof. The vision being, once you drove out of Liverpool City Centre, this building would be in pole position on the skyline. The roof ended up being 6 metres below the parapet and then the client needed the abseilers to be able to abseil down to clean the windows. In order for the abseilers to work safely, we advised that a steel walkway to carry the abseil davits be constructed.

We coordinated with the client’s structural engineers and the steelwork fabricator to give positional, design loadings and detailing advice to enable the davit base mounting plates to be pre-fabricated into the steelwork.

Our job was to ensure the Client understood the issues involved and to provide them with design & loading input. Working closely with the main contractor and steelwork contractor allowed for the design of a massive walkway, giving access to the abseilers from which our bespoke system could be drill into. This involved a tremendous amount of co-ordination.
